People report a myriad of different sensations and it’s truly individual. It’s not uncommon to experience multidimensional dull, heavy or intense sensations. The neurophysiological significance of this phenomenon is still being uncovered.2  Sensations can be subtle or intense although the technique itself is gentle.

Every session begins with an opportunity to talk about your care. Most people fall asleep during a session because it’s so relaxing. Depending on your needs and preferences, an acupuncture session may also include smokeless moxibustion alternatives such as a TDP lamp or electro-acupuncture using microcurrent, cupping, gua sha, acupressure, tuina, Chinese herbal formulas, and nutritional counseling.

Mei Zen means “beautiful person.” This system uses an ancient needling technique that brings increased Qi and blood to the face and can improve or increase the production of collagen and elastin. Every session is combined with acupuncture point selections on the body to complete the balancing of energy. This results in an overall rejuvenating effect on the body, mind, and spirit. Mei Zei can benefit people with acne or rosacea or who are seeking improved muscle and skin tone in the face and/or neck. Call 406.209.2570 to find out if you are a candidate for this exciting and nurturing technique.

Know that, while you may feel improvement after one session, acupuncture is a process and requires a commitment to be most beneficial. Plan to eat a little something beforehand and be prepared to relax. Wear loose-fitting clothing or dress down to your level of comfort. Refrain from wearing scented lotions and avoid caffeine and other stimulants for several hours before your appointment.

Let the acupuncture treatment take its full effect by gently resuming your day. Then, notice how your life activities affect how you feel. The acupuncturist-client relationship is a partnership and you may have “homework” to complement the acupuncture treatment you receive.

That depends on your personal goals for improved health and well being; the nature of your condition, including whether it is acute or chronic; and your lifestyle preferences. The recommendation may be daily, bi-weekly, weekly, or twice monthly until a condition is resolved; monthly maintenance thereafter. Everyone benefits from acupuncture tune-ups at least on a seasonal basis.

Acupuncture is largely based on meridian/channel theory which is the basis of understanding for how “qi” (pronounced “chee”) flows through the body. You can think of qi as the vital substances and energy behind every bodily function. This is why needles may be placed at locations away from the actual area of discomfort.  Acupuncturists may also needle areas of pain or tenderness, traditionally known as “ashi” points and not unlike the modern concept of “trigger point dry needling.“ To benefit from all that acupuncture – as a thousands year old system of medicine – has to offer, find a Licensed Acupuncturist in your state and one that maintains national certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine.
